BEAUTY TRENDS FOR A STYLISH SEASON.
EARRINGS OF THE MOMENT
Look out—evening jewelry is
undergoing a revolution.
Earrings are the new must-have.
Adorn your lobes with mismatched statement earrings signed by the designer. Or our suggestion for an on-trend summer: Wear one or more small hoops in one ear and an ear wrap (an earring that wraps up and around the ear’s cartilage) on the other.
SHOWING YOUR TRUE
The print of this summer season is the
stripe! Equally beautiful on a mid-length
skirt, flowing blouse, beach towel,
wristwatch or tote basket, this essential
pattern can make anything look more
chic and elegant—even in places you’d least expect it! The trend of the moment is to draw thin lines around the wrist with three or four different colored eyeliners.
WILD FOR WATERMELON
Move over coconut, watermelon is here! Watermelon is the new star of the summer,
a delicious, vitamin-packed fruit that can
do no wrong. It has appeared in home
decor on napkins and pillows. It has
infiltrated the fashion world via watermelon-themed earrings.
And of course you can eat it, too.
The gorgeous, underrated fruit
composed of 90% water is a nutritional powerhouse low in calories but filled
with nutrients and anti-oxidants.
It’s enough to make you want to throw it in a cocktail or smoothie right now!
No, they’re not winning lottery numbers, but another winning combination, one that will help you sleep better. Use your vacation time wisely and learn this relaxation technique. Here’s how it works: Breathe in for 4 seconds, hold your breath for 7 seconds, and breathe out for 8 seconds. Using this simple but wonderfully effective breathing technique, you’ll feel zen, calm, serene, and relaxed all night.
EACH MONTH WE BRING YOU AN INSPIRING CELEBRITY TO SHARE THEIR
SELF-CARE SECRETS AND BEAUTY ROUTINES.
I’ve been a journalist for over 10 years, and I live, eat, and breathe makeup! I love testing, smelling, and analyzing all of it.
It works out well, since I’ve been able to make beauty and cosmetics my job.
What is the one object that never leaves your suitcase in the summer ?
It’s not exactly an object, but rather an item of clothing: an old faded pair of shorts with holes in them. They’re not very flattering on me, but I love them, and when I wear them I feel like I’m on vacation!
What is your tip for the perfect tan ?
Be careful during the two most critical periods, when women tend not to protect themselves enough: during the early part of the summer, when you’re trying to establish a base tan, and in the late summer, when you’re trying to squeeze in those last rays.
Are you Team Cream or Team Oil when it comes to moisturizing ?
Team oil—dry oil, that is! I’m not a big fan of creams, which can be sticky and take too long to absorb. Dry oil leaves my skin satiny smooth and I don’t have to wait as long for them to dry before getting dressed.
What is your favorite activity on the beach ?
I often sit on my towel facing the ocean in the Bay of Mont St. Michel. I like to watch the waves rise and fall with the tide. There’s nothing more soothing than the sound of the ocean and the constant ebb and flow of the water.
What is your guilty pleasure in the summer ?
Farmers’ markets! I love the fruits and vegetables that are in season in the summer, I love the stands that sell a little bit of everything (even useless things!), and I love the ambiance, the sounds, and the smells.
THE EYES HAVE IT
I always start my day off with an eye mask that I store in the freezer. I leave it on for 5 minutes. It reduces my undereye bags instantly!
OPERATION BRIGHT COMPLEXION
Before an important meeting or interview, I refresh my face with blotting paper (which I always keep in my purse) and add a pink blush for a rosy glow.
Every night, I remove my makeup with an oil-based makeup remover. Then I use a foaming gel with a sonic brush. Finally, I apply an essential moisturizer with a light, refreshing texture.
MATÉ SHOULDN’T BE UNDERESTIMATED AS A BEAUTY ALLY.
IT COMBATS CELLULITE, CONTAINS ANTI-AGING
PROPERTIES, AND STIMULATES MICROCIRCULATION. KEEP
READING FOR A CLOSER LOOK AT ITS ORIGINS, BENEFITS,
AND HOW YOU CAN USE IT AT HOME!
WHERE IT COMES FROM
Maté grows wild in Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Brazil. Among other compounds, it contains high quantities of caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine, which breaks down and burns fat. Maté has long been consumed by Native Americans in a beverage nicknamed “the drink of the gods.”
WHAT IT DOES
Rich in polyphenols, flavonoids, vitamins (B2, A, and C), beta carotene, and minerals (potassium, sodium, calcium, iron, and magnesium), Maté boosts fat burning, strengthens the skin’s natural defenses against free radicals, and stimulates microcirculation.
HOW TO USE IT
To make one cup of Maté leaf tea, heat 200 ml of water to 90°C and pour over 1 teaspoon of finely ground dried maté leaves. Stir and allow to steep for 5 minutes. Strain and consume immediately.
